TIGHTENING INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING YOUR HMS LOOP

Before you begin, make sure that hair is clean and free of oils and debris.

  1. Examine locks to determine where you want to separate them for a desired style,
    and individual separation.
  2. Your style dictates the beginning point, therefore the starting point of your locks is
    optional.
  3. Lift one lock at a time from the scalp while gathering all new growth from the base
area holding it together firmly while inserting the HMS loop.
  4. Insert the HMS loop into the lock at the base while dividing the lock into equal
halves.  Pull up on the root making sure to reach the point where the hair is locked
to prevent air pockets, which may cause weak points in the lock.
  5. Place the top of the lock through the HMS loop and pull lock out from base.  As you
pull the lock through the base each manipulation will tighten the lock closer to the
scalp.  Repeat steps in a counter-clockwise direction until you reach desired
    tightness.

Tips:  Too many turns will create tension on locks, which can result in visible small tension
bumps around the base.  For further visual instructions refer to " How to Repair Locks:
Troubleshooting Techniques" written by Hana Carter, founder of the Institute of Fine Braidery
Arts and the creator of the HMS loop.
